GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Rockford Construction has been selected as the construction manager for the Amway Soccer Stadium project.
The construction company has formed a joint venture with AECOM Hunt to build the stadium. AECOM has managed venues such as Lucas Oil Stadium, Mercedes Benz Stadium and SoFi Stadium.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with AECOM Hunt to bring this incredible stadium project to life,” Shane Napper, president and chief operating officer of Rockford Construction, said in a release. “The Amway Soccer Stadium will be a monumental addition to Grand Rapids and will provide a world-class venue for fans, athletes and the community. Our joint venture leverages our deep connection to the city with AECOM Hunt’s unmatched experience in stadium and entertainment construction.”
The plan is to build the stadium an 8.2-acre site along US-131 near the YMCA. With 8,500 seats and an 18-story tower with restaurants, shops, apartments and offices, the development is expected to draw some 160,000 people downtown each year and have a $408 million economic impact on the city in its first 30 years.
The stadium will be run by the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority. Amway, an Ada-based multilevel-marketing health and beauty product company, was announced as the naming sponsor on Nov. 18 after it promised a donation of $33 million for the development of the stadium.
