GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The years-long push to build a professional soccer stadium in downtown Grand Rapids got a boost Monday from Amway, with the direct-sales giant pledging $33 million in exchange for naming rights for the 8,500-seat venue.
Speaking during the Nov. 18 event at New Holland Brewing Co’s Grand Rapids brewpub, Amway CEO Michael Nelson said his company’s gift is part of its tradition of “investing in the people and success of our local community.”
“Transformative projects like the Amway Stadium are visible displays of the pride and the purposeful intent we have for Grand Rapids and this region,” he said. “While this stadium will be the home of a new professional soccer club, we see the stadium as so much more — a hub for community interaction and for healthy activity, making Amway Stadium and Grand Rapids a destination in Michigan and beyond.”
